When I joined this group I did not know anything about telecommunication other than picking up my phone and dialing a number. I studied the equipment documentation manuals. This was pre-PDF era and the manuals were a set of 4-5, 3" binders. From these I taught myself about TL1, SONET, UPSR Rings, BLSR Rings, Linear systems, M13 muxing, CO and OSP equipment installation and turn-up. Through diligent self-motivated and determined efforts, I became an expert in the field of telephony. I did make mistakes along the way, but I corrected them with help of other team members and gained the trust of our customers that I would stand behind my work.

I supported sales by working the booths at Supercom in Atlanta and other technology events.

For RFP preparation, I worked closely with internal groups to get approved responses for sales, technical and pricing models. I created the response document and I would provide many of the responses from the equipment documentation manuals. I would then submit the document to each department for review. I worked closely with customer groups to get clarification and to build BOM equipment rack models based on the customer needs as part of the RFP response. I maintained a spreadsheet and a timeline for responses from the different groups and key RFP dates. I organized the printing and assembly the RFP response binders requiring many late over-night hours. As I had never performed such a task, I learned quite a bit along the way and developed many techniques on my own to complete successful proposals.

After winning the LTD proposal:

I was tasked with traveling all across the United States to provide presentations to each region about our products. The presentations were to small 10-15 groups up to 300+ attendees.

I traveled with the Sales Account Manager and provided technical support during customer meetings.

I worked with the customer lab personnel to help with lab verification of NEC equipment and features.

I worked with customer engineers in each region to get project projections and details.

I worked with customer engineers to provide RFI, RFQ and project designs for SONET equipment.

I traveled to customer sites to assist with installation, turn-up and live cut over of new systems.
