ION IP - Technical Training Accomplishments
The ION group approached us with performing FF installation training using courseware developed overseas. The training would be on the IP products: 7750SR, 7210 and 7705. I've always had an interest in IP products so we said yes. Again, I was only vaguely familiar with IP products as the 1830, 1678 and 1850 all have IP components as part of their DCC and OSPF span communication methods. I received a -48V rectifier, a 7750SR-7, a 7210 and a 7705 shelf from the ION group in Canada. I downloaded the equipment manuals from OLCS. I located an unused 19" roll around rack, installed and powered up the equipment. From the OLCS manuals, I taught myself how to provision the equipment, load software, use Multi-Mode fiber and electrical RJ-45 SFPs in IP equipment. I created a ring using SFPs that I salvaged from other lab projects. I learned all of this before I received any of the training materials from Europe.
I adapted the training materials to ANSI standards as the documents were created using ETSI standards and terminology. I trained the NAM FF and Global Partners on ETSI terminology and standards as the written exams were based on ETSI standards and the creators of the documents were unwilling to create ANSI versions of the exams. The training materials were lacking in hands-on procedures, so I created procedures that our students could use to learn and practice system turn-up procedures.

Using the 7750 and 7705 shelves, I conducted several Global Partner training sessions for various Alcatel-Lucent Hardware/Software upgrade MOPs.
